The city has a lot of sights to see and things to do, luckily a large number of them are completely free meaning that you can leave your purse or wallet back at your accommodation in Bristol, these include: 

  1. M Shed 

Part of Bristol Museums, M Shed is the perfect place to uncover Bristol’s story including prehistoric times right up until the present day. There are a number of interactive displays as well as film, photographs and quirky objects sure to peak your interest. Entry is free but booking is recommended. 

  1. The Matthew

A modern reconstruction of the ship that sailed John Cabot to Newfoundland in 1497, The Matthew is moored at Prince’s Wharf, next to M Shed. When the ship isn’t heading out on trips you can step aboard for free and get a sailor’s view of the Bristol Harbour. 

  1. International Balloon Fiesta

If you time your trip right, you could be in with a chance of seeing Europe’s biggest hot air balloon event. The event is free to attend and features over 100 hot air balloons take to the sky creating a mesmerising spectacle. 

  1. Bristol Harbour Festival 

One of the highlights of Bristol’s summer calendar, the Bristol Harbour Festival is an annual event celebrating the best dance, music, entertainment and arts that Bristol has to offer. The festival is free to attend although it may be hard to resist the food stalls and activities on offer. 

  1. Windmill Hill City Farm 

For animal lovers seeking more of a rural experience, Windmill Hill City Farm is a four and a half acre green space in the south of Bristol. As a working farm, there is plenty to see including animals, community gardens, family centre and an outdoor play area. Access is free but as a charity, donations are welcome.

  1. Table tennis 

If you’re looking for something a little more competitive, Bristol has a number of strategically placed table tennis tables placed around the city. From parks to street corners there are a number of free ping pong tables to use – just don’t forget your paddles and balls.

  1. Street Art Tour 

As a hub for street art, you’d be silly not to leave your accommodation in Bristol to check out some of the world famous street art that is plastered over the city. There are plenty of guides and routes online that can be printed off and followed for a fun and free afternoon. Keep your eyes peeled for a bit of Banksy!
